WINTER BOWLS

The Winter season of Saturday mixed bowls commenced last weekend in fine Autumn weather under the able guidance of Graeme and Jill Winter. Games commence after a peg-draw, with no accumulating jackpot this year. Instead, winners will earn cash prizes each week.

Last week’s winners were Butch and Sharon Sharpe with second places tied between Gail Barry and Graeme Winter/ Merle Holmes and Jem Coupar. Remember, games will commence at 12.30 (to allow for winter conditions later) with names in by 12.15 please.

[Note – entry fee for Tuesday mixed Squash, Thursday men’s peg-draw and this Saturday competition will be $8 from now on, with an added $5 green fee for non-bowling members ( including from any club)]

CROQUET NEWS

Putting Dunsborough Croquet on the map

Over the last weekend, the Croquet Section (Dunsborough Croquet) ran its first Croquetwest Tournament – the SW Division 2 AC Level Play Advanced Singles.

6 players from Moorabinda, Bunbury, Halls Head, East Fremantle and Dunsborough played 3 two and a half hour games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday in a Round Robin competition.

Our players David Morris and Raelene Willis did well: David won 4 out of his 5 games and was Runner – up to Kim Reynolds from Bunbury. Raelene had a very good win over Bill Turner, an East Fremantle player with a much better handicap. Raelene should move forward in the rankings as a result.

The courtside volunteers were tremendous – Helen South and Kate Speedy providing early morning tea, Glen and Steve Mac lunches, Vaile Drake scorer, Max Kewish and Gerry Herd general duties, Karen Martin morning tea and David and Wendy Collins with a bit of everything. Raelene Willis and David Morris put in long hours ensuring the best possible lawns and surrounds. It looked fabulous including the Wall around the paperbark between the 2 lawns, which was used as it was intended as seating. It works.
