Bruce’s Weekly Club News!

Hello all members, sponsors & patrons

NEW Club website…

www.dunsboroughcountryclub.org.au

 New club website launched!

We are very excited to have finally launched our new website design after almost three months in development!  When you get the opportunity… You’ll get to see things are looking pretty spiffy around the new site and it’s all been completely re-coded from the ground up in Word Press. Just go to www.dunsboroughcountryclub.org.au

To completely re-design, re-create, and move everything and everyone over to a new design and code base was a huge learning experience, for sure. And it has helped us review lots of area’s around the club.

A few of our goals with the new website were to make it faster, easier to navigate for users, and easier for us to manage/update. Most of all, we wanted to provide our members with one noticeboard to get to know what’s going on… and when and where it’s happening…  If you take a gander around the site, I think you’ll get a pretty good idea of who we are and what we do as a club. There’s also a detailed list of all the committee’s and their roles…

A local member Rhonda Oshanek from “Paperbark Web Designtook care of the design and everything you see on the site from a design perspective is her handiwork. John Hill, Richard Renn and I took responsibility for the content.

The bulk of what makes this new website so great is its foundation – which consists of lot’s of information about the club, what we’re about and how to find out more. We now have a shopping cart system – which will be running new membership applications and renewals. It’ll handle everything from the cart, to the checkout, to the delivery of acceptances and receipts – which will make the process much faster and easier.

The other important aspect would be the WordPress software– which truly is the most amazing content management system out there today. We are really thankful to be a part of such an awesome web community. We are excited to get the opportunity to communicate in a more effective manner because that’s really what we’re here to do. And we feel good about the fact that our website has the ability to facilitate that much better. As always, if you have any questions or need help with  the new website you can contact me at manager@dunsboroughcountryclub.org.au – or leave us some thoughts in the comments on the website.

James Bond Theme Ball

The Club hosted the Busselton SES Ball on Saturday night which was attended by 120 guests.  A great deal of effort went into the setup and decorating of the Club.  A red carpet arrival and “Casino Royale” theme set the tone for a great night.  There was a silent auction and raffles with all proceeds going to the Busselton SES.

Free Hearing Tests

The Australian Hearing Bus will be situated at the Club on Wednesday from 10.00am to 3.30pm for free hearing tests.  No appointment is required just come along on the day.

The Member’s Jackpot was not won and $700 will be up for grabs this week.  Members must be present to claim.

On Friday night Kirsty is preparing a Xmas feast for us all to enjoy Dinner Menu 19 12 2014.  Bookings can be made via phone, email or the foyer booking sheet.

As Xmas is fast approaching why not get your friends together and come to the Club on Friday for dinner and drinks.  It’s always a great, fun atmosphere with plenty of laughs on offer.

Trail Care Day

Thankyou… 15 Volunteers!

Many thanks to the 15-strong party that started and completed the new section of Y-Not on Sunday Dec 14. Thanks go to Rod, Jenny, Richard, Amber, Helen, Lawson, Jenny, Greg, John, Anthony, Jason, Glenys, Chris, Andrew and Ian who put in an awesome effort.

The whole club and community benefits from their efforts.

Thanks also to Jenny and Glenys for the tasty morning tea. It’s worth showing up just for that!!

If you haven’t been to a trail care this day come along in 2015 and help improve your trails.

It’s only 2 hours and we get a huge amount done when there’s a strong turnout.

The more help we get the sooner our trails will be in tip-top shape. We have new features planned. We need help with bush trimming, stump removal, trail widenening on narrow sections, berm maintenance and a range of other trail imporovements.

NOTE the new Y-Not trail is open for business! The old ‘washed out’ fireroad section on Y-Not is now closed.

Paddle races

And this year… we’ve added 3 standalone ocean paddling races to the program so those who like just the on-water racing can be part of the action too:

  • 22km Long course
  • 15km Medium course
  • 8km Short course

The paddles race will be held on Saturday morning so if you’re that way inclined… you can do both – a paddle race on Saturday morning and then the X-Adventure Short Course in the afternoon or X-Adventure Long Course on Sunday.

All paddle races will be out and back paddle courses that head North West up the coast to a turn-around buoy and return to finish on the beach back where you started. All races will commence with a shallow water start with paddlers in knee deep water sitting in your boats ready to go.

The paddling takes place in Geographe Bay, a protected body of water that is sheltered from the west and south west and rarely (if ever) gets any swell so paddlers of all abilities are welcome. This is truly magnificent paddling that will take you past secluded sandy beaches, rocky headlands and picturesque wilderness on crystal clear water >>ENTER A PADDLE RACE NOW<<
