BOWLS NEWS

MENS’ BOWLS

Thursday Men’s Peg Draw

25 bowlers dashed in and out of the showers to just complete the two rounds last week. New bowler, Mike Finney, showed he is a force to be reckoned with, as he paired with Bill Hitsert in winning the meat. Rs/up: Garry Robertson and Norm Gage with the chocolate going to Johnny Cunneen and Bill Pearce.

Saturday Mixed Peg Draw

21 bowlers enjoyed a pleasant, warm day when two pairs succumbed to the combination of the Fremantle fly-in Keith Bowden, who combined with young Daisy Grist, to lead the field with 31 shots up. Rs/up: Brian Buttsworth and Sharon Sharpe.

Missing faces

Bill Marwick spectates from time to time and is awaiting test results from Switzerland to see if anything can be done to improve his shortness of breath.

Pat Hines says this legs are more troublesome than his lungs presently. Like Bill, he joins us occasionally, and the pair remain in good spirits.

Bill Bass misses his Thursday comradeship very much but finds house-husband duties take precedence at the moment as his wife needs his close attention.

Kevin Nichols also misses his bowls, while he undergoes a further round of treatment. Stiffness and discomfort are his constant companions presently, but he faces his limitations stoically and gracefully.

Let us keep all these colleagues in our thoughts and/or prayers.

TUESDAY MIXED SOCIAL BOWLS

With perfect weather conditions we had 27 players for our mixed competition on May 2nd.

A lot of fun and enjoyment was had by all along with some very good bowling played throughout the day. John Halden, Mick Finney, Hans Queckfeldt, Ken Holyoake, Sharon and Butch Sharpe won through to play in the final with Sharon Sharpe taking out the prize. Well done Sharon!

Great to see two new Club members, John and Mick playing such good bowls and make the play offs. Hope to see you all next Tuesday weather permitting.

CROQUET NEWS

The South West Golf Croquet Pennant competition has concluded. Teams from Dunsborough Croquet Club, Busselton Croquet Club, and two teams from Moorabinda, Moorabinda White and Moorabinda Red participated. Teams consisted of 4 players, and for each match they played a round robin format. All teams played each other twice to make a six week season.

The Champions were Moorabinda White, followed by Moorabinda Red, Busselton and then Dunsborough.

8 players represented our club. They were Helen and Robin Beer, David Bell, David Collins, Caryll Marshall, Karen Martin, Helen South and Max Kewish. Our team performed very well, and were not disgraced considering they were playing against players with very low handicaps and many years’ experience. Some of our players have only been playing a short time, but were willing to put their hands up and represent our club.

Dunsborough’s first Golf Croquet Pennant Team: David Bell, David Collins, Karen Martin and Robin Beer.

Max Kewish and Caryll Marshall who joined the team last week.

Our first club tournament, Ricochet, will be held this weekend. Two 2 hour games will be played on Saturday morning, and the final game on Sunday morning.

All three forms of croquet are played in Dunsborough, all year round. New players are encouraged to join us for any of the sessions. Instruction and equipment supplied.

Association Croquet: Tuesday and Friday mornings. Names in at 8.15am for an 8.30 start

Ricochet: Wednesday 1pm and Sunday morning 10am

Golf Croquet: Wednesday and Friday afternoon. Names in at 2.45pm for a 3pm start

SAYING OF THE DAY.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but the

moments that take our breath away.

TENNIS NEWS

Dunsborough Tennis Section enjoyed a weekend of very competitive tennis at the Bunbury Teams Carnival last weekend.  This event is held each year and draws strong competition from many clubs in Perth and surrounding suburbs as well as Busselton and Australind.  It is the first time a Men’s team has entered the event and after two days of solid tennis they were Runners Up in their division.  This was a well-earned result and we look forward to seeing the men submit a team again next year.  Great tennis – John McCallum, Paul Moss, Jim Davies, Keith Williams, Greg Banfield and Mike Howes.

The Ladies also entered a team again for the third year and were successful in winning their Division for the second time in three years!  The Ladies are now on notice that next year we will be in a higher division.  The tennis was intense and was a nailbiter to get over the line within the time limit with a win.  Great tennis Ladies – Janet Pendrigh, Shelley Boon, Kendal Moss, Hester Van der Westerhuyzen and Marlene Howes.

We all look forward to participating again in 2018 at the Bunbury Teams Carnival.
