Ladies Pennant Final

In what was an extremely close contest, Augusta edged out Dunsborough Blue by two shots with the final bowl of the day to win the final.  After the first game was drawn 15 all, Augusta edged out Dunsborough in the second game 20 to 18.  It was great to see such good numbers of  support for Dunsborough from their fellow bowlers.  The game was followed by a luncheon and presentations.

Corporate Bowls Challenge at Cowaramup

Seven teams represented the DDCC Corporate Bowls on Wednesday March 4th.  Travel was via bus driven by Wendell Hoover with all teams bar one taking this travel opportunity.

Two of the Cowaramup teams did not make it on the night and so a hasty change had to be made to ensure the competition ran.  Thus a few of the games were played 3v4 players.  It meant a slight advantage to the opposition but our boys loudly proclaimed they could handle anything and “bring it on” was the chant.

Lights were set up and the game commenced.  Our lads found the greens there quite trying and so we went down 5-2 games.

Congratulations to Cowaramup who have now won the challenge trophy four times to our nine times, so we cannot complain can we?  Many thanks to Peter Clews and his band of helpers for the venue, the game, the food and their hospitality.  Next years challenge will be at home.

Many thanks and congratulations to the teams which represented the club and who played well throughout the season to get to the challenge.

The next step is now if three of our teams would like to go to the state challenge in Perth.  Information has been sent to the teams concerned.

I would like to thank all sponsors once again for their continued support, to all the volunteers without whom this competition could not run and to all the teams for taking part.  I hope everyone will continue again next year. Please pass the word and help get more teams involved.

Janice Paddick Hoover

A big thank you to Janice & Wendell Hoover for the time and effort you both contributed to the Corporate Bowls season making it a great success.

Bunbury Central Tournament

Over the Labour Day long weekend, Terry Herd and Raelene Willis played in the Bunbury Central Croquet Club’s 100th Birthday Association Croquet Handicap Doubles with a changing partner format competition. This is a relaxed format where each player plays with a different partner in each game. It is a very social occasion as you get to meet and play with players of varying levels and experience.

In her first game, Terry was fortunate to be partnered by Martin Clarke, the second ranked Association Croquet player in WA, who had just returned from Victoria where he had won both the Victorian Open Doubles and Singles Golf Croquet competitions. Both Terry and Raelene enjoyed the weekend.

This year’s tournament had a special significance for Bunbury Central as it is celebrating its 100th birthday. Last Sunday, Terry and Raelene joined Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan, Federal Member for Forrest, Nola Marino and past and present players at the club to mark the occasion.

Friday Night Social Croquet

There will be no social croquet this Friday, March 13th, because of preparations for the X Adventure event.

The Members  Jackpot draw was not won on Friday.  The jackpot will be $800 this week.   Members must be financial and present to claim.  The draw will be held in the club rooms between 5.30pm – 6.30pm.

I was asked on three occasions on Friday evening if all member numbers were in the barrel.  I can guarantee this is the case as they have been counted out and sorted on two occasions recently.  Rest assured, everyone has the same chance of winning.

Have a great week!
