Two Dunsborough locals and country club members Paul Morton and Rhonda Oshanek have recently created and released their first innovative guidebook App for Android phones on Google Play. Fourteen months in the making, the App, called Margaret River Find the Fun, is a handy guidebook for a mobile phone or tablet.

It contains the best beaches, surf spots, road biking, mountain biking, hiking, attractions, cellar doors, breweries and things to do in the region. It includes a map of the mountain bike trails around the country club.

The most powerful feature is its maps never need the internet to work. This means that when you are in any of the numerous black spots in the region, the App will still work. How so? Well, you use your device’s GPS (100% free feature on your phone), to see where you are on the map. Once you know where you are, you can then decide where you want to go. Try doing that on a paper map.

You will never get lost on an unmarked hiking trail, mountain-bike track or 4×4 track again!

The App is free to download. Once it is downloaded, you will save money because it does not need your data or roaming to use 98% of the App. The only time you will use data is if you access an external website (to make a booking for example), which of course, needs the Internet.

It’s not only useful for tourists and visitors, but locals will also find it very useful.

CROQUET

Pennants: Congratulations to our pennant team who had a great win over Halls Head 1 in their first hit out for the season last Thursday. Terry Herd, Raelene Willis and David Bell all won their matches and the overall hoop score was 55 to 29.

The next two matches are home matches. The new court has been marked and the hoops are ready to be positioned. Because of poor growth on one end the dimensions have been altered slightly, but the greenkeeper is keen for the court to be used as all the hard work has been focused towards getting the surface ready so we are able to host pennant matches. On Oct 15th we host Bunbury Central and on the 21st the other Bunbury Club, Moorabinda. Thank you to those who have helped with preparations.

This is only our third year playing pennants and our captain, Terry Herd, is organising the South West Pennant competition.

Quiz Night: Congratulations to the Bells, Drakes, Herds and Kate Speedy who took out the honours at the Golf Section’s Spring Quiz Night. The other croquet table came equal fourth. Well done to the Golf Ladies. It was an enjoyable night with thought provoking questions. Does this prove it takes more than sheer brute force and luck to get through those hoops, or did we chose intelligent spouses!

Summer playing times:

Association Croquet: Tuesdays and Fridays 8.15 – 12.30.

Newcomers welcome between 10.30 and 12.30 on Fridays. Tuition and equipment is available.

Golf Croquet: Wednesday and Friday afternoon 3pm – 5pm. Names in by 2.45pm please. Cost is $3 per session for members, $5 per session for non members. N
