Hello Members, Sponsors & Patrons

“HAPPENINGS AROUND THE CLUB”

It was a great privilege to have our esteemed Life Member Jim Smith, and son Mike, enjoying a meal and a catch up with friends at the Club last Friday evening. Great to see you Jim!!

*************

Monday morning 9am hard at work- croquet Members Brian, John, Max and David C laying the spare pavers next to the shelter shed. Thank you to Karen for keeping the kykuyu at bay on the edge of No.1 court and to Raelene who is always wheelbarrowing something.  Well done everyone!

DO YOU WANT TO SEE THE BEST?

The Country State Squad, Golf Croquet will be at the DDCC on 27th of May-

(see Croquet News for further info)

The  Golf Section are very lucky to have 2 wonderful people, May Armstrong and Ron Carmody who put in a huge amount of time contacting past family members in order to upgrade the Sponsorship and Tee Signs on the Golf Course.

Many hands make light – Barry Guest, Doug MacPherson, Barry Jackson, Mal Wiliamson and Ron Carmody certainly proved that when they banded together to install the new Tee Signs on the Golf Course. Thanks guys- your work is definitely appreciated by all golf members and sponsors of the signs. The signs look fabulous!!

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SPONSORED A HOLE

*********

Raising awareness and money for Cancer is uppermost in our minds at this time of year and the Golf Section include this on their calendar every year. This day is lovingly sponsored by Jean MacBeth in memory of her husband and by Leonie Walker in memory of her father. Thank you both for keeping this day on the calendar and all those who played and donated money.  Well done!

***********

The tennis courts are progressing well and subject to weather conditions the final surface will be applied in June.

***********

The final touches are being done to the extensions of the cool room in order to double the size for keeping kegs and drinks cold.

BAR PRICING

Unfortunately, on occasions and due to ever increasing prices the Club needs to reassess the bar prices and adjust them accordingly. So as of the 1st of June a number of our bar items will have increased in price. We are advising Members of this change so there isn’t any confusion when you next come to purchase anything over the bar after the 1st of June.  Thank you.

Membership

Well done to all those members who have successfully updated their details in the Wild Apricot Membership program. A reminder that this needs to be completed before the 1st of June otherwise your invoice will be incorrect. If you have any problems please contact me between 10am and 4pm Tuesday to Friday in May.  Many thanks Vicki!

Membership Cards

Please note that the Membership Cards for the Dunsborough Country Club will NOT be sent out to Members until MID JUNE as your cards are a little different this year. They are a Rewards Card as well as a Membership Card and next week in the Newsletter there will be a section telling you how they work and how they benefit you being a Member.

BOWLS NEWS

MENS’ & LADIES’ BOWLS

Tuesday Mixed Bowls

Another great Tuesday with 24 players competing.  Fun was had by all in very good weather conditions.  Peter Willcocks ran riot and scored a massive 21 points (a record) followed by Jill Winter 11 points and husband Graeme on 9 points.  A fantastic final was played with some magnificent bowls, but no-one could break the ice so finally a 3 way draw.

Thanks so much for an entertaining and competitive final.  See you all next week, weather permitting.     Butch & Sharon

Thursday Men’s

2-4-2 pairs was the order of the day (with one triple) and two 12 ends were completed despite the threatening clouds. Rod Winchcombe and newcomer Toby McCarthy won the day with Rob Prentice and young Ken Holyoake not far behind. Hans Fischer partnered Johnny Cunneen on the trip to Mars.

Saturday Mixed

Despite the need to don flippers at one stage the waterlogged carpet drained quickly to allow completion of a mixed peg-draw well before dusk. Jill Winter and Norm Gage won the day with Butch Sharpe and Reg a fly-in visitor from Portland, Victoria coming second.

CROQUET NEWS

BUSY BEES

Monday morning  9am hard at work Brian, John, Max and David C laying the spare pavers  next to the shelter shed, the plan is to stack the barriers in this area, they achieved such a professional finish it is seems a shame to cover them!!!!!!!!.  The extra turf has been planted in some of the bare spots around the courts. My thanks to the above and also to Karen for her offer to dig some of the kikuyu that reoccurs on the edge of number 1 court.   Greenkeeper Raelene.

ANNUAL RICOCHET TOURNAMENT
