SNAKES AND LADDERS WRAP-UP
The Saturday Snakes and Ladders ended it’s season last Saturday. It was an important game as many players were in contestant for the jack-pot prizes. The weather kept everyone away except eight players, plus one player from Busselton.
Glenn Tillotson from Busselton won three games with Ian Creagh and Janice Hoover behind on two wins. After all additions the jack-potplacings were declared and the top five players had just four points between them.
Judy Henderson missed six games which may have made a difference, but then if Garry Robinson had continued there would have been no doubt that he would have won. As it was the winner on 58 points was Janice Hoover and Judy Henderson and Wendell Hoover tied for second place on 57 points. Coming in third was Maureen Hines and Ian Creagh coming in fourth, both of them missing games also.
This was a new concept. It naturally needs a few tweeks but overall it was a successful competition. Wendell devised the competition and drew up the score cards, keeping track on his computer of all wins etc. We wanted an equal playing field for the games with the intention that all games would be interesting and competitive. We are confident we achieved that. It also gave everyone a grand opportunity to compile points for the jack-pot.
Lastly there is someone I would like to mention. A big bouquet goes to rob Pollard. Rob came each week to help with money etc but it always turned out that we were a player too many. Rob very quickly always volunteered to stay out. Despite few games he did amass points and if he had played each week – well who knows, he certainly would have been in the running for the prize. So many thanks to Rob. Here’s some wine and roses for you!

Association Handicap Doubles Competition
Congratulations to Kate Speedy and David Bell who, in cold conditions last Friday, pulled off a good win against seasoned opponents to win their Club Association Handicap Doubles match, 17 hoops to 11. Kate’s game has improved markedly of late and David played a strong game scoring 11 of the 17 hoops. Keep it up chaps!
Retirement
Our long standing member Barbara Mander has announced her retirement from croquet.
Together with Rita Robertson, Glad Butterly and Norma Dunn, Barbara was one of the early faces of Dunsborough Croquet, representing the club in SW Pennants. Barbara was a Croquet Section President and Vice-President for many years. She and her husband Rob were tireless volunteers for busy bees and odd jobs. She will be missed on the court, in the shed and in the agapanthus bed. Our annual Christmas Gala Day is her legacy to us. We wish Barbara and Rob well.
